Woooo eeee it’s been a long time! Now that work has slowed, I am slowly catching up on things I’ve wanted to do for a while, and posting about the delicious alcohol I’ve had in the last few months is one of them.

My husband and I had a Visa gift card we needed to spend, and after bandying about a bunch of practical expenses (new rug, mulch, more deck paint), we decided to treat ourselves and go to the ABC Store.
Broad Branch‘s Rye Fidelity is one we’ve wanted to try since it came out a couple years ago, but the $70 price tag was hard to justify. But hey, errybody needs an occasional irrational purchase so here we are. We’ve tried big-brand whiskies like WhistlePig, Bulleit, Jefferson’s, Four Roses, and Knob Creek as well as local, small-batch whiskies like Old Nick Williams, Fainting Goat Spirits’ C.B. Fisher’s, Mayberry Spirits, and even Broad Branch’s now-discontinued Nobilium and Supercollider. The Broad Branch Rye Fidelity, in our opinion, is better than all of these.

It’s smooth. It’s oak-forward. It has a sweetness that lingers. I suck at describing whiskey, and honestly, I don’t think most people pick up on most of the flavors listed on the label anyway. (Although “cigar” and “fireplace” might be dealbreakers for me, haha.) I’ll always remember the day we tipsily stumbled into a huge bar and restaurant in Louisville and tried WhistlePig for the first time, but I’ll also remember putting on some Miles Davis, uncorking the Rye Fidelity bottle, and looking at each other in amazement as we sip on the Best Whiskey Ever (to-date), from right here in our own city.
